This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use it if you had an allergic reaction to oliceridine, or if you have severe breathing problems or stomach blockage (including paralytic ileus).How to Use This Medicine:
Injectable
- Your doctor will prescribe your dose and schedule. This medicine is given through a needle placed in a vein.
- A nurse or other health provider will give you this medicine.
- Your doctor may also let you decide when you will get a dose of the pain medicine by pressing a button on a computerized machine pump (patient-controlled analgesia).
- Missed dose: Call your doctor or pharmacist for instructions.
Drugs and Foods to Avoid:
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
- Some medicines can affect how oliceridine works. Tell your doctor if you are using any of the following:
- Carbamazepine, erythromycin, itraconazole, ketoconazole, phenytoin, quinidine, rifampin, ritonavir, tramadol, trazodone
- Benzodiazepine medicine
- Diuretic (water pill)
- Medicine to treat depression (including bupropion, fluoxetine, paroxetine, MAO inhibitor, SNRIs, SSRIs, TCAs)
- Do not drink alcohol while you are using this medicine.
- Tell your doctor if you use anything else that makes you sleepy. Some examples are allergy medicine, narcotic pain medicine, and alcohol. Tell your doctor if you are also using buprenorphine, butorphanol, nalbuphine, pentazocine, or a muscle relaxer (including cyclobenzaprine, metaxalone).
Warnings While Using This Medicine:
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease, liver disease, heart disease, gallbladder problems, lung disease or breathing problems (including COPD, sleep apnea), diabetes, pancreas problems, or a history of seizures or mental illness (including depression). Tell your doctor if you have ever had a head injury or brain tumor. Tell your doctor if you have ever been addicted to alcohol or drugs.
- This medicine may cause the following problems:
- Increased risk of overdose, which can lead to death
- Respiratory depression (serious breathing problem that can be life-threatening)
- Sleep-related breathing problems (including sleep apnea, sleep-related hypoxemia)
- QT prolongation (heart rhythm problem)
- Worsening of pain
- Adrenal gland problems
- Low blood pressure
- Seizures
- Serotonin syndrome (when used with certain medicines)
- This medicine can be habit-forming. Do not use more than your prescribed dose. Call your doctor if you think your medicine is not working.
- This medicine may make you dizzy or less alert than you are normally. Do not drive or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how this medicine affects you.
- This medicine may cause constipation, especially with long-term use. Ask your doctor if you should use a laxative to prevent and treat constipation.
- Do not stop using this medicine suddenly. Your doctor will need to slowly decrease your dose before you stop it completely.
- Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
- This medicine could cause infertility. Talk with your doctor before using this medicine if you plan to have children.
- Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.
Possible Side Effects While Using This Medicine:
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
- Anxiety, restlessness, fever, muscle spasms, twitching, diarrhea, seeing or hearing things that are not there
- Blue lips, fingernails, or skin
- Changes in skin color, dark freckles, cold feeling, weakness, tiredness, nausea, vomiting, weight loss
- Extreme dizziness or weakness, shallow breathing, slow or uneven heartbeat, sweating, cold or clammy skin, seizures
- Fast or pounding heartbeat
- Lightheadedness, dizziness, fainting
- Severe constipation, stomach pain
- Shaking, trembling, hunger, confusion
- Worsening of pain, increased sensitivity to pain
If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
- Back pain
- Drowsiness, headache
- Pain, itching, burning, swelling, or lump under your skin where the needle is placed
- Warmth or redness of the skin
