When This Medicine Should Not Be Used:

This medicine is not right for everyone. You should not receive it if you had an allergic reaction to gallium Ga 68 dotatate.

How to Use This Medicine:

Injectable

  • A doctor or other trained health professional will give you this medicine. It is given through a needle placed in one of your veins just before you have a PET scan.
  • Drink enough water to be hydrated before the PET scan.
  • Drink and urinate as often as possible during the first hours after the scan. This will help remove this radioactive medicine from your body.

Drugs and Foods to Avoid:

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

  • Some medicines can affect how gallium Ga 68 dotatate works. Tell your doctor if you are using somatostatin analogs or steroid medicines.

Warnings While Using This Medicine:

  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, or if you have other medical problems.
  • Your doctor may tell you to stop breastfeeding, and pump and discard your breast milk for at least 12 hours after you receive this medicine.
  • You will be exposed to radiation while you receive this medicine. Avoid close contact with infants and pregnant women for at least 12 hours after you receive this medicine. If you have any questions about this, talk to your doctor.

Possible Side Effects While Using This Medicine:

Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:

  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing

If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:

  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Pain, itching, burning, redness, swelling, or a lump under your skin where the needle is placed
  • Skin rash

If you notice other side effects that you think are caused by this medicine, tell your doctor
